$1 - Amazon Voice ensures the survival of indigenous communities and environmental resources of the Amazon through the use of media and communications technology to convey humanitarian needs, cultural presence, and organize grassroots action. Amazon Voice is working to create a network of media hubs throughout the Amazon that will empower indigenous communities with better tools to educate, report, and communicate through coordinated initiatives for ensuring their self-sustainability. www.amazonvoice.org
$1 - The Green World Campaign plants trees to restore degraded land, raise the living standards of the rural poor, and combat climate change. Through reforestation and agroforestry in countries from Kenya to Mexico to India, GWC treeplanting programs help revitalize soil, increase crops and animal forage, recharge aquifers, provide sustainable fuel and building materials, and absorb atmospheric carbon. In Kenya, the GWC operates treeplanting programs through a network of Green World Schools; distributes eco-efficient cookstoves; and plants a "famine tree" (moringa) with high-protein leaves. Its "Text TREE to 85944" initiative recently appeared in a dazzling display a dozen jumbo screens in Times Square on Earth Day (http://ow.ly/59N4t) Donations can be made at http:// www.greenworld.org
Critical Beats works with indigenous communities in the Amazon to share their music and their stories with the world in an effort to raise awareness about the gifts of the culture, the needs of the people, and the critical state of the forest. Critical Beats partners with the indigenous musicians to record their songs and share them with notable music producers worldwide who weave their own inspiration into each song. The resulting tracks are a collaborative effort between the producers and Amazon musicians that span 1,000 of miles and in some cases 1,000 of years of musical tradition in order to inspire action in listeners toward preserving the rainforest. Critical Beats is a volunteer-run and collaborative organization with 100% of profits derived from music sales going to well-established non-profit organizations like Rainforest Action Network who use effective strategies to support Amazon preservation. www.criticalbeats.org
