City Holds First Earth Summit in Tandem with Earthdance Festival!
On September 18-19, at the D' Family Park in Nasipit, Talamban, over 70 NGOs and Green Businesses, with dozens of bands and local performing artists were represented at Earthdance Cebu & Earth Summit 2010 - the first-ever citywide Earth Summit in convergence with the 'Earthdance Festival for Peace'! The pioneering event featured a Bike Rally & Forum, an Interfaith Group, Environmental Exhibits, Art Workshops, Green Products and more.
"We would like to encourage other EarthDance organizers to hold an Earth Summit at the same location as their EarthDance as part of the daytime events. The networking and community education and awareness raising of the Earth Summit can dovetail nicely with the EarthDance celebration. Cebu for Sustainable Development
"The Cebu Earth Summit [is] the largest convergence of environmental, sustainable community development, renewable energy and organic farming NGOs, along with government agencies, green businesses and universities that Cebu has ever seen", said Festival Director Geoff Holland ('JahFe') before the event. Philippine Agenda 2000 will take the highlight for Earthdance Cebu 2010 Celebration. Philippine Agenda 21 is the nation's blueprint for sustainable development.
Local Charity Impact
Cebu City Task Force on Street Children
A group of Earthdance Cebu organizers went to visit a village called Sapandako where they worked with a local People's Organization, the Barangay Sapandako Association of Women, and the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children to clean rubbish from a section of the headwaters of the Guadalupe River.
With 20 years of experience in taking care of out-of-school youth, street children, children in conflict with the law and abused children, the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children (CCTFSC) has made a number of impressive achievements, particularly its non-formal education and health services for street kids.
